Notas I made this from a woven wool coating fabric, underlined with cotton flannel for additional warmth and structure. I also pad stitched in a hair canvass chest shield/collar stiffener, manipulated so that the back of the collar remains upright and the fronts curve slightly into my neck. This was my first time sewing a coat, so I was very happy with how it turned out!

I started making the buttonband and ultimately scrapped it in favor of sewing large snaps directly onto the fronts. From what I could understand from the instructions and my rough mockup, the hidden buttonband would have left the fronts slightly open, which was not the look I wanted (nor did it seem very functional for a fall/winter coat).

I also widened the sleeves at the bicep slightly, to accommodate any thick sweaters I might wear under the coat, as well as lengthened the sleeves by 2 inches--and they still feel a little short! I'm 5', and I think the Lekala pattern generator must think I have short little T-rex arms because of my height. Something to keep in mind for other short folks out there.

I'll note that I really like the sleeve cap and the angle at which the sleeves are set into the armholes. They angle slightly to the front rather than fall straight down at my sides, which means I'm not fighting to lift my arms when I'm driving.

    Really nice job!
Have you discovered that you can adjust your arm length in the adjustment tab ?
