| ノート | High Waisted Skirt With Flounce In The Back. Made in Terlenka. G-e-t-t-i-n-g N-U-T-S!!!! If you like to keep it simple, by all means: please scroll on to another model… This one tested all my nerves, my wits and my patience (of which I have a lot of)… I kept on moving the pattern, did check again and again. Only to come to the conclusion that the drawing of the skirt is reversed from left to right (perhaps the sketcher drank too much vodka). So leave the drawing for what it is, and check the screenshot, cause that is where the answer lays (as mostly with Lekala patterns, but of course I did check this too late.) So I was pinning my pieces together to have some overview, and then did turn the lot in reverse (see pix). Then the skirt matches the screenshot. And even then it is not that simple, at least not for me, as I wished to fully line the skirt, as: first of all the hem of the flounce is in waves, and God may struck me down: but you’ll never be able to have a neat seam! My solution was to double the flounce with lining, to add later on to the skirt, and then make the skirt again in lining, being separate of the flounce (as otherwise the flounce main fabric stretches different from the lining. The lining is another (major) problem. There is no way the lining can be separated from the main fabric, as the center front - as well as the reversed center front behind it have to be sewn in an already existing seam (front center side seams). I did elongate the lining separate (adding pleats to it), as the lining in the skirt is rather narrow, and beyond the knee the lining would otherwise become far too narrow. I did not want to make full buttonholes, as these would take away the beauty of it’s outlook, but still I wanted to use my beautiful buttons. So I made tiny buttonholes, hidden behind the buttons (see pix). The 3 to the right (when facing the skirt in front of you) I made through the front as well as the facing (as these need to hold the front of the skirt in place). Both left ones I made only in the upper fabric, as I need to sew them trough the facing behind it, as there is no fabric otherwise to hold them. If you will not make use of buttons, you’ll have to stitch the upper front part to the layer front part behind it. Note: you will need a large zipper (at least 30 cm), the front facing and the mid center part of the skirt need to have strong (or double) fusible interfacing, as the skirt lacks a waistband (and I have a bloated belly, so the skirt itself needs to hide all of this in, nor having the tendency to drop to the floor). One more note: as this skirt hasn’t got a waistband, and is open at the front center: If you loose - or gain – weight, the skirt will not fit anymore. But I did like the model so much that this is a risk I was prepared to take. Sorry if my explanation of my way how I could fix the skirt: it might be as much ‘Mumbo jumbo’ to you as the instructions by Lekala.
