Notes | I found the upper fabric as a deadstock fabric for 1 euro. So thin it could not be used to create a garment. But I know myself very well: I fell in love with it and had to have it, come hell or high water. Immediately also dreamed this wrap blouse pattern to go with it. When I came home with the fabric, only then it started to dawn on me that this would be an uphill struggle. First of all the fabric was far too thin to work with (I could see China trough it). So I decided to use a second layer (left over of the pants I made to go with the blouse) in Classic Poly fabric. Still I was not out of the woods, as Lekala rarely uses lining, and when the blouse opens a bit, the hem could be seen, which is a ‘no go’ for a seamstress like me. So, from the dept of my mountains of fabric, I chose a strecthy fabric, which -alas- was no lightweight item. I did double the blouse with this fabric, thus adding a lot of weight to it. With it’s weight in total it becomes more a vest than a blouse, but hey, no regrets. I had to make alterations. First of all added the lining. The super lightweight upper layer kept on torning at the seam where the collar meets it’s stand. To overcome this I did sew a velvet ribbon on this seam - again a hurdle taken. The placing of the cuff is -and this is an understatement- very odd! So I turned these further on, so the edges of the cuffs are in the middle of the sleeve. As the seam would be shown I turned the cuffs over the sleeve hem and did top stich this. The binders I made some longer. The trousers are ‘Mc’ Calls 8223 Misses Pants’ without the inset the length of both hems are 3,20 meter (with inset -also listed by me at this site- a whopping total of 5,20 meter), all handsewn. Made in the Classic Poly fabric I did use as second layer for this blouse. |
